Timber Pergola with Woven Shade Canopy
Paphos
Shade is the most valuable thing in a Cyprus garden from May to October. For this modern villa, a timber pergola with a woven shade canopy turns a sun-baked courtyard beside a board-formed concrete wall into an outdoor room that works by day and by night.
The structure is a simple, strong grid of stained timber posts, beams and rafters, fixed to concrete footings and to the wall. A woven fabric shade is threaded over and under the rafters in a chequered pattern, filtering the sun while letting air circulate, so the space stays cooler than under a solid roof. Integrated lighting washes the canopy and the concrete wall in the evening.
- Timber posts, beams and rafters, stained for outdoor use
- Woven shade canopy in a chequered pattern
- Fixed to footings and the existing wall
- Evening lighting built into the design
In full Cyprus sun, timber pergolas should be re-oiled or re-stained every couple of years to keep them looking good. This pergola was built by craftsmen from our network and priced after a free site visit and measurement.
